Coffee - Honduras David Argueta La Paz

Tastes like: Tangelo / Honey / Dulce de Leche
For the 3rd year in a row, we are elated to bring you a wonderful, extremely limited, micro-lot in partnership with Catracha Coffee a collective in Santa Elena, La Paz, Honduras who've been working hard to improve coffee quality and the economic viability of specialty coffee farming.
This year's lot is from David Argueta, a young and passionate specialty coffee producer. Catratcha says "David probably gets the prize for having the hardest farm to get to and some of the best views getting there!" Janine & Saadat experienced this first hand in February 2024 when they were finally able to go visit Catracha and David's farm in person.
From seed to processing, David puts love and hardwork into his crop, resulting in a sweet, juicy coffee. Up front we taste a bright, ripe tangelo zest that lifts into a rich & creamy body, reminiscent of Dulce de Leche. It makes for a complex yet inviting cup. To emphasize its natural sugars, careful attention has been given to the roast profile of this coffee.
So why does this coffee cost a few bucks more? In addition to the premium we paid (which goes directly to David) we are charging an additional $2 at retail directly to Catracha for what they are calling Third Payment. Traditionally, coffee producers are paid only once at the time of export, but Catracha uses a better system where farmers are paid a portion of the projected sale price at the time of harvest (First Payment) and then again when the coffee is exported (Second Payment).
The Third Payment from each bag is divided three ways:
1. an emergency medical fund for Catracha producers;
2. increased wages for the coffee pickers;
3. an additional direct payment to the producer.
We are supremely honored to share this very special coffee with you now and hopefully for many more harvests to come.
