The Cats Behind Woodcat
The proud owner-operators of Woodcat Coffee, Woodcat Roasters and now Dinosaur Coffee are Echo Parkers and veteran coffee people Janine & Saadat Awan.
Janine was raised in Harrisburg, PA by diehard Dunkin' drinkers, and Saadat in the DMV where coffee drinkers had a few more options. They met at a show in Baltimore, MD in early 2009 and Saadat promptly began introducing Janine to his deep passion for all things brewed, most notably tales of his Murky Coffee days. Without fail, each and every trip they took centered around finding the perfect espresso or cozy café.
After moving from DC to Echo Park in 2012, they saw a need for a specialty coffee spot in their neighborhood. With their powers combined, they decided to just go for it in 2014. 9 months later in September, they quietly opened Woodcat's doors to the neighbors and haven't looked back since.
As barista and shop-owner, Saadat has expanded his skills from brewing and cupping to now roasting, while Janine has developed & refined her palate & skillset to be the better barista of the pair.
In addition to their chosen paths as coffee professionals, they are a graphic designer/illustrator and architectural MEP engineer/drummer respectively.¶
